PRACTICE
AREAS
Care of Children and Parenting Orders
Not all parenting matters need to involve the Family Court. Some people simply have an agreement in writing so that it is clear what the parameters are and to avoid disputes. Orders are necessary in certain circumstances, for example if there is a lack of trust and/or safety issues. Make an appointment to discuss the best way to deal with your parenting matters.
Family Violence
Where family violence is involved, we act for people who are seeking protection and those who have been served with a protection order. Make an appointment to discuss the best way to deal with your family violence matter.
Guardianship and Relocation
Where a child resides or attends school are examples of guardianship issues. These decisions should not be made without agreement of all guardians. If agreement is not reached a court application must be filed if you wish to change where your child lives or attends school. Make an appointment to discuss the best way to deal with your guardianship matter. If you are concerned the other parent/guardian may try to remove your child from New Zealand to stop your parenting rights, there are urgent orders that we can obtain. Make an appointment to discuss the best way to deal with your family matter.
Paternity
If you are needing to establish who the father of your child is or need to know if you are the father of a child, contact us to discuss the best way forward.
Protection of Personal and Property Rights
Oranga Tamariki Matters
If someone you care about is no longer able to make decisions regarding their personal care, welfare and property, we can assist you with applying to be appointed a welfare guardian and/or property manager under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988 (PPPR).
If Oranga Tamariki have become involved with your family, we can assist by providing sound legal advice throughout the process including support through Family Group Conferences, responding to an application for care and protection orders, plan and review of Court plan and orders. We can also assist with permanency applications.
We undertake legal aid work and am a Lead Provider in Family Legal Aid.
